SAT Desmos practice is the tool skill inside Digital SAT Math. College Board's test structure page puts Math at 44 questions and 70 minutes, two 35-minute modules. Bluebook embeds both the Desmos graphing calculator and the Desmos scientific calculator for that whole section. You can toggle between them at any point in Math. Handheld non-CAS calculators are still allowed. The live set below is the artifact.

College Board's calculator policy is exact: calculators are for Math only. You put a handheld under the desk during Reading and Writing. In Math you may use the embedded Desmos pair or an approved non-CAS handheld. Graphic, scientific, and four-function models are allowed. CAS models are not. College Board no longer publishes a permitted-model list. It publishes a prohibited list.
Desmos's own Assessments FAQ adds the trap that costs people points: content typed in graphing mode does not carry into scientific mode. Toggle first, then type. Practice the testing calculator at desmos.com/practice or inside a Bluebook preview, not only on the public Desmos site.
On Larry Learns, Advanced Math is the hardest SAT subject at 64.0% accuracy across 680 answers (pulled 2026-08-27). Graphing a quadratic or a system is often the faster check on those items. SAT Desmos Practice Questions With Answers
Open a testing calculator in another tab. Cover the answers. Graph first when the problem is a curve, a system, or a "how many solutions" ask. Skip the tool when the algebra is one or two steps.
1. Intersection. Graph y = 2x - 1 and y = -x + 8. What is the intersection point?
A) (2, 3)
B) (3, 5)
C) (4, 7)
D) (5, 3)
Answer: B. Set 2x - 1 = -x + 8. Then 3x = 9, so x = 3 and y = 5. In Desmos, type both lines and tap the crossing. If you landed on (2, 3), you solved 2x - 1 = x + 8.
2. Zeros. The graph of y = x^2 - 5x + 6 crosses the x-axis at which values of x?
A) 1 and 6
B) 2 and 3
C) -2 and -3
D) 0 and 6
Answer: B. Factor as (x - 2)(x - 3). The zeros are 2 and 3. Graph the parabola and tap the x-intercepts. The public Desmos site may show more digits than Bluebook. The zeros here are integers.
3. Vertex. What is the vertex of y = x^2 - 4x + 1?
A) (2, -3)
B) (2, 1)
C) (-2, 13)
D) (4, 1)
Answer: A. The axis is x = 4/2 = 2. Then y = 4 - 8 + 1 = -3. Graph and tap the bottom point. (2, 1) is the y-intercept mixed with the axis.
4. System. Solve y = 2x and x + y = 9.
A) (2, 4)
B) (3, 6)
C) (4, 5)
D) (9, 18)
Answer: B. Substitute: x + 2x = 9, so x = 3 and y = 6. Graph y = 2x and y = 9 - x. The crossing is the same pair. (9, 18) solves only the first equation.
5. How many solutions. How many real solutions does the system y = x^2 + 1 and y = x have?
A) 0
B) 1
C) 2
D) Infinitely many
Answer: A. Set x^2 + 1 = x, so x^2 - x + 1 = 0. The discriminant is 1 - 4 = -3. No real roots. Graph both: the line sits under the parabola and never touches. Zooming out does not create a crossing.
6. Line from points. A line passes through (0, 2), (1, 5), and (2, 8). Which equation matches?
A) y = 2x + 2
B) y = 3x + 2
C) y = 3x
D) y = x + 2
Answer: B. Rise over run is 3. The intercept is 2. In Desmos, add a table and a linear regression, or type y = 3x + 2 and watch it hit all three points. y = 3x misses the intercept.
7. Evaluate. If f(x) = 2(3)^x, what is f(3)?
A) 18
B) 36
C) 54
D) 162
Answer: C. 2 times 27 is 54. Scientific mode is enough. Graphing y = 2(3)^x and reading x = 3 works, but it is slower. 18 is 2 times 3^2. 162 is 2 times 3^4.
8. Skip the tool. Solve 4x = 20.
A) 4
B) 5
C) 16
D) 80
Answer: B. Divide both sides by 4. Opening Desmos here burns the seconds the intersection items need. College Board's policy page says some Math questions are better without a calculator even though one is allowed.

Desmos Moves the Digital SAT Actually Rewards
The official assessment framework splits Math into four domains. Algebra and Advanced Math are each about 13 to 15 scored questions. Problem-Solving and Data Analysis and Geometry and Trigonometry are each about 5 to 7. Desmos helps most on the first two: lines, systems, quadratics, and "how many solutions." Hard SAT Desmos Practice
Hard items hide in the window. If the graph looks empty, the crossing is off-screen. Zoom out before you mark "no solution." The other hard costume is an exact-form ask. Desmos may print a decimal. If the choices are fractions or radicals, convert. The third costume is the toggle: an expression left in the other mode is gone.
Regression is the typed long-tail. A linear fit through clean points is item 6. A quadratic fit is the same habit with a different model. Do not invent extra points. Plot only what the stem gives you.
Khan Academy, Bluebook, and PDF Versions
Khan Academy's Official SAT Prep still drills Math skills. Use it for the lesson. Full-length Digital SAT tests live in Bluebook. A "Desmos worksheet" or PDF of the eight items above is this page. Print it if you want paper. Do not download a pack that is the same eight questions behind a button.
Frequently Asked Questions About SAT Desmos Practice
Is Desmos on every SAT Math question?
Yes. The embedded Desmos calculators are available for the entire Math section, both modules. They are not available on Reading and Writing.
Can I switch between graphing and scientific on the SAT?
Yes. College Board and Desmos both say you can toggle at any point in Math. Work typed in one mode does not appear in the other. Check the mode before you type.
Do I have to use Desmos, or can I bring a calculator?
You may bring an approved non-CAS handheld. You may also use only Desmos. If the handheld fails, Desmos is still there. Practice the tool you will actually tap on test day.
Where can I practice the exact SAT Desmos calculator?
Use desmos.com/practice or a Bluebook preview. The public Desmos site has extra features that the testing calculator turns off.
Does Khan Academy include Desmos practice?
Khan drills the math. The calculator habit is a Bluebook or Desmos-testing-page skill. Use Khan for the lesson and this page for the graphing moves.
What is the fastest way to get better at SAT Desmos practice?
Eight to ten questions. Name the move before you tap: intersect, zeros, vertex, table, or skip. Log the move you missed, not the letter. Short sets beat a full calculator tour.
