Is 1330 a Good SAT Score? (2026)

Where a 1330 lands at flagship universities, why it is the exact Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholars cutoff this year, and when a retake pays off.

Yes, a 1330 is a very good SAT score. It sits at the 93rd percentile nationally and the 88th percentile among students who actually take the SAT, so you outscored roughly seven in eight recent test takers. It is 285 points above the class of 2026 average of 1045.

It is also a number Florida families know by heart. For students graduating in 2026-27, a 1330 is the exact minimum SAT score for Florida Academic Scholars, the top Bright Futures award, which covers 100% of tuition and applicable fees at a Florida public college or university. Below, you will see where a 1330 is competitive, where it is a reach, and how to decide on a retake.

What Percentile Is a 1330 SAT Score?

Here is how a 1330 compares with nearby scores in the College Board's current percentile tables:

SAT Score National Percentile User Percentile General Rating
145099th95thExcellent
140097th93rdExcellent
135094th89thVery good
133093rd88thVery good
130091st85thVery good
125086th80thGood
120081st75thGood

The national percentile compares you with all US 11th and 12th graders. The user percentile compares you with actual SAT takers who graduated in the past three school years, which is closer to the group you compete with in admissions. By that measure, about 12% of test takers scored higher than you.

Notice how the curve flattens up here. Moving from 1330 to 1350 adds one percentile point. Moving from 1330 to 1400 adds five user-percentile points. Gains still matter at this level, but mostly because of where specific colleges and scholarships draw their lines, not because of the percentile itself. The full chart is in our SAT percentiles guide.

Colleges Where a 1330 Is Competitive

These ranges come from each university's 2025-26 Common Data Set (section C9). They describe enrolled first-year students from fall 2025 who submitted SAT scores:

School SAT Middle 50% (enrolled, fall 2025) Your 1330 Is
UNC Wilmington1240-1350Upper half (median 1301)
University of Tennessee, Knoxville1280-1380Exactly the median (1330)
University of Georgia1250-1420Exactly the median (1330)
University of Connecticut1260-1420Just below the median (1350)
Ohio State University1300-1440In range, lower half (median 1380)
NC State University1310-1440In range, near the bottom (median 1390)
University of Florida1330-1490Exactly the 25th percentile

A 1330 is the median SAT score of enrolled students at both Tennessee and Georgia, which is a strong position at two flagships. At Florida it is exactly the 25th percentile: about three in four enrolled students who sent an SAT score had a higher one. That makes UF possible but not comfortable on the score alone.

Two things to keep in mind when you read the table:

  • Submission rates differ. At Florida 78% of enrolled first-years submitted the SAT and at Georgia 70% did, so those ranges describe most of the class. At NC State it was 13%, at UNC Wilmington about 7%, and at Tennessee 25% (80% sent the ACT), so those SAT ranges describe a smaller group.
  • Several of these schools require a score. Georgia's admissions office says "There is no test optional pathway to UGA." Tennessee requires all first-year applicants to report ACT or SAT scores, and Ohio State reinstated its test requirement for Columbus campus applicants starting with the 2026 admissions cycle.

Reach Schools With a 1330

Above this tier, a 1330 falls below the 25th percentile and becomes a liability if you have to send it:

  • Florida State University. FSU reports a middle 50% of 1380-1480 for students admitted for fall 2026. That is an admitted-student range, which runs higher than an enrolled-student range, but a 1330 is 50 points under its low end. FSU says all applicants must submit at least one ACT, CLT, or SAT score.
  • University of Southern California. Enrolled first-years in fall 2025 who submitted the SAT had a middle 50% of 1470-1540, and only 33% of the class submitted one.
  • The most selective private universities, where ranges often start near 1500.

A reach is not a no. Grades and course rigor come first almost everywhere, and at schools where scores are optional you can decide whether the 1330 helps. But you should build a list where a 1330 is at or above the median at several schools, not only at the bottom of the range.

Does a 1330 Qualify for Scholarships?

In Florida, yes, and it is the big one. According to the Florida Department of Education's 2026-27 Bright Futures requirements, the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) award requires a combined SAT score of 1330 for 2026-27 graduates (an ACT of 29 or a CLT of 95 also qualifies). A 1330 meets that requirement exactly.

Bright Futures Award 2026-27 Graduates (Class of 2027) 2027-28 Graduates (Class of 2028) Your 1330
Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)SAT 1330 / ACT 29SAT 1350 / ACT 29Qualifies for 2027; 20 points short for 2028
Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)SAT 1190 / ACT 24SAT 1200 / ACT 25Clears it either year
  • The bar rises for current juniors. For 2027-28 graduates the Academic Scholars minimum is 1350. If you are in the class of 2028 and holding a 1330 today, you need 20 more points. Until then, your 1330 still clears the Medallion requirement of 1200.
  • The rest of the FAS requirements are stricter too. You need a 3.50 weighted GPA in 16 college-preparatory courses and 100 volunteer service hours, 100 paid work hours, or a combination totaling 100. You must also submit the Florida Financial Aid Application by August 31 after graduation.
  • Bright Futures superscores. The Bright Futures Student Handbook says the SAT combined score is the sum of your best Reading and Writing score and your best Math score across eligible test dates, and tests taken on or before August 31 of your graduation year count.
  • What it pays. The handbook says Academic Scholars receive an award covering 100% of tuition and applicable fees at a Florida public institution. Medallion Scholars receive 75%.

The gap between 75% and 100% coverage adds up over four years, so for a Florida student near the line this is one of the most valuable retakes there is. Our Bright Futures SAT score guide has the full requirement list, and FMS vs. FAS compares the awards side by side. If you are closer to the Medallion line, see our guide to a 1190 SAT score.

Outside Florida, a 1330 is high enough to matter for automatic merit awards at several public universities, but the thresholds differ by school and often by residency. Tennessee, for example, says it uses your highest ACT or SAT superscore when reviewing students for institutional merit scholarships, and only accepts tests taken through December 2026 for fall 2027 applicants. Check each school's scholarship page for its own numbers.

Should You Retake the SAT With a 1330?

A 1330 is strong enough that a retake should have a specific purpose:

  • Florida senior at 1330 with the GPA and hours: you have met the Academic Scholars test requirement. Retake only for admissions reasons.
  • Florida junior at 1330: retake. You need 1350 under the 2027-28 requirement, and section superscoring means a small gain in either section gets you there.
  • Applying where 1330 is at, near, or below the 25th percentile (Florida, NC State, Florida State): a retake is worth it. Moving to 1380 or 1400 puts you near the median at several of these schools.
  • Applying where 1330 is at or above the median (Tennessee, Georgia, UNC Wilmington): your time is probably better spent on essays and grades.

On timing: if you took the October 3 SAT, your scores arrive on October 16. The next test dates you can still register for are November 7 (register by October 23, late registration through October 27; scores November 20) and December 5 (register by November 20, late registration through November 24; scores December 18), per the College Board's test calendar. Check each college's deadline for the last test date it accepts before you count on December.

How to Go From 1330 to 1400

At 1330 you already know most of what the test covers. Getting to 1400 means recovering a small number of questions, so precision matters more than volume.

  1. Sort your misses into three piles: content you did not know, questions you misread, and questions you ran out of time on. At this level the second pile is often bigger than students expect.
  2. Close the specific Math gaps. The harder second module leans on nonlinear functions, quadratics, circle equations, and trigonometry. A short list of weak topics is normal at 1330, and each one is learnable in a few focused sessions.
  3. Tighten the Reading and Writing questions that have one defensible answer. Grammar and transitions questions are rule-based, so any you are still missing are the cheapest points available.
  4. For inference and evidence questions, find the line that proves the answer before you choose. If you cannot point to it, you are guessing.
  5. Take two full Bluebook practice tests under real timing and review every miss, including the ones you guessed right.

1330 SAT: Where It Fits

  • You scored higher than about 88% of recent SAT takers and 93% of all US 11th and 12th graders.
  • A 1330 concords to a 29 on the ACT in the official ACT/SAT concordance, which matches the Academic Scholars ACT minimum.
  • You are at the median at Tennessee and Georgia and at the 25th percentile at Florida.
  • You are exactly at the Bright Futures Academic Scholars minimum for the class of 2027, and 20 points under it for the class of 2028.

Frequently Asked Questions About a 1330 SAT Score

Is 1330 a good SAT score?

Yes, it is a very good score. A 1330 is at the 93rd percentile nationally and the 88th among SAT takers, 285 points above the class of 2026 average of 1045. It is at or near the median at several flagship public universities.

Is 1330 enough for Bright Futures?

For Florida students graduating in 2026-27, a 1330 is the minimum SAT score for Florida Academic Scholars, the top award, provided you also have a 3.50 weighted GPA and the required service or work hours. For 2027-28 graduates the minimum rises to 1350.

What ACT score is equal to a 1330 SAT?

The official ACT/SAT concordance matches a 1330 SAT to a 29 on the ACT. SAT totals from 1330 to 1350 all concord to a 29.

Can I get into the University of Florida with a 1330?

It is possible but not a safe bet on the score alone. A 1330 is exactly the 25th percentile for UF's enrolled first-years in fall 2025 (middle 50%: 1330-1490), so about three in four enrolled students who submitted the SAT scored higher.

Should I retake the SAT with a 1330?

Retake if you are a Florida junior who needs 1350, or if your target schools' ranges start at or above 1330. If your schools' medians are at or below 1330, a retake is optional. November 7 and December 5 are the remaining 2026 test dates.

How much better is a 1400 than a 1330?

A 1400 is the 93rd user percentile compared with the 88th for a 1330. The bigger difference is positional: a 1400 is above the median at schools like Ohio State and NC State, where a 1330 sits in the lower part of the range.
