Is 1100 a Good PSAT Score? (2026)

Yes: an 1100 PSAT score is the 69th percentile for juniors and the 82nd for sophomores. One lopsided split still misses the Math benchmark. Check yours here.

Is 1100 a Good PSAT Score? (2026)

How an 1100 ranks in 10th and 11th grade, the one benchmark a lopsided split can still miss, and what it sets up for the SAT.

Yes, an 1100 is a good PSAT score, and how good depends on your grade. For a junior it is above average, at the 69th percentile among 11th-grade test takers. For a sophomore it is a strong result, at the 82nd percentile among 10th-grade test takers, according to College Board's current tables.

An 1100 also clears College Board's on-track benchmarks in most section splits, which a score 100 points lower often doesn't. It is not a National Merit score, and no section split can make it one. Fall 2026 PSAT/NMSQT scores reach students on October 22, November 5, or November 12, depending on when your school submitted its tests (College Board score release dates). Here is what an 1100 tells you and what to do with it.

What Percentile Is an 1100 PSAT Score?

The figures below come from College Board's PSAT/NMSQT percentile tables (checked October 2026). User percentiles compare you with students who actually took the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 in the past three school years. Nationally representative percentiles estimate your rank among all U.S. students in your grade, tested or not.

PSAT total score 11th grade: user 11th grade: nationally representative 10th grade: user 10th grade: nationally representative
120082nd90th92nd92nd
115076th85th87th88th
110069th79th82nd82nd
105061st70th76th75th
100053rd59th69th65th

What the table shows for an 1100:

  • A junior with an 1100 scored as well as or better than about 7 in 10 junior test takers. Against all U.S. 11th graders, the estimate rises to the 79th percentile.
  • A sophomore with an 1100 is ahead of about 8 in 10 classmates nationally, at the 82nd percentile on both measures.
  • The grade gap is 13 points. The same 1100 ranks 13 percentile points higher in 10th grade than in 11th, because juniors as a group score higher.
  • The step up from 1000 is big. For juniors, moving from 1000 to 1100 is a jump from the 53rd to the 69th percentile, 16 points. The next 100 points, to 1200, adds 13.

Your own report shows an All Tester Percentile for your grade, which is calculated on a slightly different group, so it may not match these figures exactly. For every score from 320 to 1520, see our PSAT percentiles chart, and for the score just below this one, see is 1000 a good PSAT score.

How Your 1100 Splits: Section Scores and Benchmarks

College Board's grade-level benchmarks mark whether you are on track to be college ready. Per the Fall 2026 PSAT/NMSQT Understanding Scores guide, they are 460 in Reading and Writing and 510 in Math for 11th grade, and 430 and 480 for 10th grade. An 1100 sits 130 points above the junior benchmarks combined (970), so most splits clear both. Not all of them do:

Section split 11th-grade user percentile (RW / Math) 10th-grade user percentile (RW / Math) 11th-grade benchmarks (460 / 510) 10th-grade benchmarks (430 / 480) Selection Index
550 RW + 550 Math65th / 73rd78th / 85thRW met, Math metRW met, Math met165
600 RW + 500 Math78th / 58th88th / 72ndRW met, Math 10 shortRW met, Math met170
500 RW + 600 Math49th / 84th64th / 92ndRW met, Math metRW met, Math met160

The balanced 550 and 550 student meets every benchmark in both grades. So does the math-leaning 500 and 600 student. The exception is the junior with a 600 in Reading and Writing and a 500 in Math, who is 10 points under the Math benchmark despite an above-average total. If that is your split, your report is telling you something specific: your reading is already at the 78th percentile for juniors, and Math is where the next points are.

The percentiles also show that the sections aren't interchangeable. For juniors, a 550 in Math is the 73rd percentile but a 550 in Reading and Writing is the 65th. A 600 in Math is the 84th; a 600 in Reading and Writing is the 78th. Equal section scores don't mean equal standing, so compare each section with its own column.

What an 1100 PSAT Predicts for the SAT

The PSAT/NMSQT and SAT share a common score scale. College Board's Understanding Scores guide says a student with a 500 in PSAT Math "would be expected to also get a 500 on the SAT" if they had taken it that same day. Applied to your total: an 1100 PSAT means you would likely have scored about 1100 on the SAT that day.

That is already a respectable SAT score. On College Board's SAT percentile tables, an 1100 SAT is the 67th nationally representative percentile and the 62nd percentile among SAT takers, and it is 55 points above the class of 2026 national average of 1045 (College Board 2026 SAT Suite Annual Report). A balanced 550 and 550 also clears both SAT college readiness benchmarks (480 in Reading and Writing, 530 in Math). The 600 and 500 split does not; it is 30 points short in Math.

We won't promise a specific gain, because it depends on your classes and how much you practice. What you can do is see what each step up would be worth on the SAT:

SAT total Nationally representative percentile SAT user percentile Distance from 1100
110067th62ndWhere you are today
115074th69th+50
120081st75th+100
125086th80th+150

A sensible way to set your target is to look up the middle-50% SAT range at two or three colleges you are interested in and aim for the middle of it, not to pick a round number. Our guide to what an 1100 SAT score means for colleges shows where the score already fits, and the PSAT to SAT score conversion guide covers how the two tests relate.

How Far Is an 1100 From National Merit?

Illustrated study desk with an open notebook, two clocks, and a weekly planner filled with check marks

Far. National Merit uses the Selection Index, not the total: double your Reading and Writing score, add your Math score, and divide by 10. The class of 2027 Commended Student cutoff was a Selection Index of 208, which takes a total of at least 1320 to 1420 depending on the split.

Here is the arithmetic for an 1100:

  • 550 Reading and Writing and 550 Math: Selection Index 165.
  • 600 Reading and Writing and 500 Math: Selection Index 170. Reading and Writing counts twice, so a verbal-leaning split scores higher.
  • The best possible split at 1100, a perfect 760 in Reading and Writing with a 340 in Math: Selection Index 186.

So even in the extreme case an 1100 is 22 index points short, and from a balanced split it is 43 short. For a junior, that settles this year's competition, and that is fine: NMSC recognizes about 50,000 of roughly 1.2 million entrants (NMSC, Steps in the Competition).

For a sophomore, it is a more interesting number. If you are spending the usual four years in high school, your 10th-grade score doesn't enter you in the program (nearly all entrants are juniors), so October 2027 is your qualifying test. Getting from 165 to 208 would take something like 690 in Reading and Writing and 700 in Math, about 140 to 150 more points per section. That is a steep climb in one year, and you should plan for the SAT either way. The cutoff also moves a little from year to year. See our guides to Commended Students and NMSQT qualifying scores for how the tiers work.

What to Do Next With an 1100

If you are a junior: you have a real choice about timing. The spring 2027 SAT dates are March 6, May 1, and June 5 (College Board SAT dates and deadlines), and our SAT test dates guide lists each registration deadline and score release date.

March 6 is about 19 weeks after the first PSAT score release on October 22, enough time for a full round of practice. The December 5 SAT is also still open (registration closes November 20, late registration November 24), but it is only about six weeks after scores arrive, so it suits students who were already preparing. A simple plan for March:

  1. Check the Math benchmark first. If your Math score is under 510, that is your priority. If both sections are over the line, work on whichever one has the lower percentile.
  2. Use the content-domain view on your report. It breaks each section into four areas. Start with the two weakest.
  3. Practice in short daily sessions instead of one long weekend block. Fifteen to twenty minutes a day adds up over 19 weeks.
  4. Take a full Bluebook practice test in January, and use the result to decide between March 6 and May 1. Taking March leaves May and June open for a second attempt.

If you are a sophomore: an 1100 in 10th grade is a head start. You don't need to register for anything yet. Keep your math course sequence on track, read regularly, and plan on two checkpoints: the October 2027 PSAT/NMSQT, which counts for National Merit, and a first SAT in the spring of junior year. If you want a number in between, a Bluebook practice test over the summer will show how far you have moved. Frequently Asked Questions About an 1100 PSAT Score

Is 1100 a good PSAT score?

Yes. An 1100 is the 69th percentile among 11th-grade test takers and the 82nd among 10th-grade test takers on College Board's user tables. It is above average for a junior and strong for a sophomore.

Is 1100 a good PSAT score for a junior?

It is above average. You scored as well as or better than about 69% of junior test takers and, in most section splits, met both of College Board's 11th-grade benchmarks (460 in Reading and Writing, 510 in Math). It is below the National Merit Commended level.

What does an 1100 PSAT convert to on the SAT?

About an 1100, since the tests share a score scale and College Board says a section score represents the same level of achievement on both. An 1100 on the SAT is the 67th nationally representative percentile. Your actual SAT score will depend on what you do between now and test day.

How far is an 1100 from National Merit Commended?

A balanced 1100 gives a Selection Index of 165, which is 43 points under the class of 2027 Commended cutoff of 208. The highest Selection Index any 1100 can produce is 186, so no split qualifies.

Should I take the SAT right after getting an 1100 on the PSAT?

Usually not right away. Taking the SAT within a few weeks would most likely repeat the score. Many juniors at 1100 are better served by a few months of targeted practice and the March 6 or May 1, 2027 SAT.

Do colleges see an 1100 PSAT score?

No. College Board's help center says: "No, colleges won't receive your child's actual test scores." Scores go to you, your school, and National Merit Scholarship Corporation as cosponsor of the test. A PSAT score isn't part of a college application; the SAT you take later is the score colleges use.

An 1100 is a solid base, and the quickest way to build on it is regular practice on the areas your report flags.
