CLT Practice Test: Free Official Tests and a Plan (2026)
CLT practice test guide: 3 free official online tests for the CLT and 2 for the CLT10, how to time and score them, and a plan for the Nov 14 CLT.
Larry Learns Team
The official CLT practice tests are free and live inside your CLT account: three full practice tests for the CLT and two for the CLT10, all online, timed like the real exam, with an answer explanation for every question. The CLT8 and the other grade 3 to 8 tests get PDF sample tests instead.
The official CLT practice tests are free online tests in your CLT account, not downloads. The Classic Learning Test keeps its official practice tests on its own student dashboard, so you create a free account at cltexam.com, open the Prepare for Exam tab, and take them there. This page explains which tests exist for which version, how to take one under the real timing, how to read the score you get back, and a short plan built around the next CLT dates. If you are new to the test itself, start with what the CLT is and who accepts it.

CLT says it provides official practice tests for the CLT and CLT10, available through your online account, and sample tests for the CLT3-8. Its practice test help page spells out the count: three unique practice tests for the CLT and two for the CLT10. They have the same structure and style as the real exam with different content. You reach them from the student dashboard, under "Prepare for Exam" on the left side.

Three details worth knowing before you start:
The online tests are free, but you need an account. CLT states that to take a free practice test for the CLT or CLT10 you must log in to your CLT account, and the account itself is free.
CLT10 students can borrow from the CLT. CLT says the 11th and 12th grade practice tests can help prepare for the CLT10, with the note that their content is more difficult. That gives a 10th grader five practice tests instead of two.
The grade 3 to 8 PDFs are samples, not prep. CLT does not offer practice exams for the CLT3-8, because those tests measure educational progress. It does post a full sample test for each grade, and the CLT8 file includes an answer key, but CLT says these samples are not intended for test prep.
Beyond the free tests, CLT offers the Official CLT Student Guide (3rd Edition), which you order from its site. It has three full-length practice tests with an answer key and explanations, essay prompts, and a breakdown of the test content. CLT does not say whether those three overlap the online ones, and it notes they are CLT tests, so they run harder than the CLT10. Start with the free tests; the guide is for a student who has used them up.
How to Take a CLT Practice Test Under Real Timing
The practice tests are timed like the real exam. Per CLT's practice test help page and FAQs, the CLT and CLT10 run 2 hours of testing in three sections, and each section has 40 questions.
Section

Quantitative Reasoning

2 hours

The real exam day adds about 20 minutes of pre-test instructions, for 2 hours and 20 minutes in all. Students testing in school online can add a 30-minute optional essay; it does not affect the numerical score and is not offered on the remotely proctored exam, so most home testers can ignore it.
To make a practice test feel like test day:
Sit it in one go at least once. CLT lets you do a practice test in pieces, but it cannot save an unsubmitted test, so you have to submit at the end of each session. Pieces are fine for drilling. Your first and last full tests should be one sitting.
Answer every question. CLT scores the number of correct answers and does not penalize a wrong answer, so a blank is a guaranteed zero and a guess is not.
Mark the questions you guessed on. CLT suggests writing down the number of every question you were not sure about, so you review those even when you got them right.
Use your accommodations if you have them. CLT says approved extended time or text-to-speech should appear in the practice test too, and to email its accommodations team if it does not.

How to Score a CLT Practice Test and Read the Result
You do not score a CLT practice test by hand. Like the real exam, it returns an overall score and a score for each section as soon as you submit. Each section is scored on a 40-point scale, and the total is on a 120-point scale. Every past attempt is saved in Practice Test History, and you can retake any practice test as many times as you like.
The useful part is the review. For each question you can see the correct answer and click "Show Explanation" for the reasoning. Read the explanations for every miss and every guess, then sort the misses into a short list: a grammar rule, a type of math problem, a kind of passage. That list is your study plan for the next two weeks.
To translate a practice score into SAT terms, CLT publishes its own CLT to SAT concordance table. A few rows from it:
CLT score
SAT score in CLT's table
110
1520
100
1390
90
1270
80
1170
70
1080
60
1000
Treat a converted practice score as a rough estimate. It is a practice test, taken at home, and CLT notes that some colleges build their own concordance tables, so a college you care about may read the same CLT score differently.
A Short Study Plan Around the Next CLT Dates
Individual students take the CLT at home on remotely proctored dates; in-school dates are booked by schools. These are the next remote dates on CLT's CLT test page:

Saturday, November 14, 2026

December 3, 2026
December 22, 2026
Saturday, January 23, 2027
January 14, 2027
February 10, 2027
On a remote date you test in one sitting at any time in the window from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Eastern. CLT lists the remotely proctored CLT at $112.
CLT suggests an order for its three practice tests that works well as a plan: Practice Test #1 first as a baseline, then Practice Test #3 after some study, and Practice Test #2 (or the test simulation) the day before the exam. The test simulation looks like the remotely proctored CLT and uses content similar to Practice Test #2, so remote testers should take the simulation and in-school testers should take #2. Mapped onto the calendar, with day counts from October 30:
For November 14 (15 days): take Practice Test #1 this weekend, timed. Register by November 5. Spend the next week on your miss list, about 30 to 45 minutes a day (our estimate, not a CLT rule). Take Practice Test #3 around November 8 or 9. Take the test simulation on November 13 to check your device and room.
For December 8 (about 5 and a half weeks): the same three steps with more room. Practice Test #1 in the first week of November, two to three weeks of review, Practice Test #3 in late November, the simulation on December 7. Register by December 3.
For January 23 (12 weeks): spread the three official tests a month apart, use the Student Guide if you want more full-length tests, and keep Practice Test #2 or the simulation for the day before.
Two weeks is enough to learn the test's format and fix a handful of repeat mistakes. It is not enough to rebuild a weak math foundation, so if Practice Test #1 shows that, look at the December or January date instead.
How CLT Practice Relates to SAT and ACT Practice
Some students take the CLT alongside the SAT or ACT, often because a college or scholarship on their list accepts the CLT. The three tests overlap in what they reward: reading carefully, editing sentences for grammar and clarity, and doing algebra and problem solving under time pressure. Our view is that grammar and math practice for one test carries over to the others, while timing, question style and the reading passages do not. CLT says two-thirds of its reading and writing passages come from its author bank of classic writers, which reads differently from SAT and ACT passages.
So take each test's own official practice tests before you sit it. For the SAT that means the Bluebook tests; our page on how many official SAT practice tests there are lists them, and which SAT practice test to take first helps you start. For the ACT, see our guide to free ACT practice tests. If you are booking dates for both, the SAT is on December 5 (register by November 20) and the ACT on December 12 (register by November 6), so a December 8 CLT sits right between them. Our SAT vs ACT guide helps if you are still choosing between those two.
Larry Learns has no CLT questions. It is SAT and ACT practice: 30,000+ SAT and ACT practice questions on web, iPhone and Android, with a score estimate that tracks progress. If the SAT or ACT is also on your list, try a free SAT or ACT quiz to warm up the grammar and math skills the tests share.
Frequently Asked Questions About the CLT Practice Test
Are CLT practice tests free?
Yes. The official CLT and CLT10 practice tests are free inside a free CLT account. The Official CLT Student Guide, which you order separately, has three full-length practice tests of its own.
How many official CLT practice tests are there?
Three for the CLT and two for the CLT10, all online and free. The Official CLT Student Guide adds three full-length tests of its own. The CLT3 to CLT8 have one PDF sample test per grade instead.
Is there a CLT practice test PDF?
Only for the grade 3 to 8 tests, including the CLT8. The CLT and CLT10 practice tests are online only, in your account, which is also how the real exam is given.
Are CLT practice tests timed?
Yes, like the real exam: 40 minutes for Verbal Reasoning, 35 for Grammar/Writing and 45 for Quantitative Reasoning, 2 hours in total, with 40 questions per section.
Can I retake a CLT practice test?
Yes, as many times as you want. Each submission resets the test and saves the score in Practice Test History. A repeat is still a test you have seen, so count your first attempt as the honest score.
Does Larry Learns have CLT practice questions?
No. Larry Learns covers the SAT and ACT only. Use CLT's own practice tests for the CLT.
Take Practice Test #1 this weekend and let the misses set your plan. If the SAT or ACT is next on your calendar, create a free Larry Learns account for 3 free SAT and ACT quizzes a day, streaks, and a score estimate that moves as you practice.
