SAT Practice Test 8 Answers and Scoring Guide (2026)

Official SAT Practice Test 8 answers are free and come straight from College Board: the answer key and the raw-score conversion table sit inside the "Scoring Your SAT Practice Test 8" PDF, and a separate 48-page explanations PDF gives a written rationale for every question. Both download from the same page as the test, so you never need a third-party key.

What the bundle does not advertise is worth knowing before you grade yourself: on paper, Test 8 gives a score band, not a number, because its conversion table hands you a lower and an upper value for every raw score. The paper form also runs 120 questions in 2 hours 44 minutes, against 98 in 2 hours 14 minutes for the adaptive Bluebook version.

Where to Get SAT Practice Test 8 and Its Answers

Everything is free from one source. Open College Board's paper practice tests page and scroll to Bundle 8. Three files, all confirmed live in August 2026.

File in Bundle 8What it contains
SAT Practice Test 8The linear test: two Reading and Writing modules of 33 questions, two Math modules of 27
Scoring Your SAT Practice Test 8Scoring instructions, the answer-key worksheet, and the raw-score conversion table
SAT Practice Test 8 Answer Explanations48 pages of rationales: why the credited choice wins, and separately why each wrong choice fails

That third file decides whether the test was worth your Saturday. A bare key says you missed question 14; the explanations say which trap caught you. We do not reprint the key or questions here: they are copyrighted, and free at the source anyway.

To take Test 8 the way the real exam behaves, use the Bluebook app, where the adaptive versions live. It scores you automatically, puts your scores in My Practice for review and analysis, and points you to targeted practice on Khan Academy. One warning: the PDF is not a bonus test. It is the same Test 8 rebuilt for a nondigital format, so doing both means meeting many of the same questions twice.

We run this walkthrough for Test 4, Test 5, Test 6, and Test 7 too, plus an overview of every official answer key.

How SAT Practice Test 8 Is Structured

Test 8 exists in two shapes, and they are not the same length.

ComponentPaper Test 8 (linear)Real digital SAT
Reading and Writing33 per module, 39 minutes each54 total, two 32-minute modules
Math27 per module, 43 minutes each44 total, two 35-minute modules
Total questions12098
Testing time2 hours 44 minutes2 hours 14 minutes
Second moduleFixed for everyoneRouted by your first-module performance

Those timings are printed in the Test 8 booklet itself: 39 minutes per Reading and Writing module, a 10-minute break, then 43 minutes per Math module, with a calculator permitted on every Math question. That matches the real exam's built-in Desmos calculator, available throughout the Math section, and both versions report on the same 400 to 1600 scale, 200 to 800 per section. The extra 22 questions and half hour exist because a fixed form cannot adapt: paper Test 8 has to cover the whole difficulty range in one pass for every student.

How to Review Your Answers Effectively

Scoring Test 8 takes ten minutes. Reviewing it takes two to three hours, and that is where the improvement comes from. Sort every item you did not get cleanly into four buckets.

Illustration of an answer key and scoring worksheet used to review an SAT practice test
  • Careless. You knew the content and lost the point anyway: misread the stem, solved for the wrong variable, fat-fingered a grid-in. The cheapest points on the test.
  • Half-known. You narrowed it to two and picked wrong. The explanations PDF earns its keep here, because it says specifically why the runner-up fails.
  • Unknown. No route in. Note the content domain; this bucket becomes your study list.
  • Lucky. Right without being sure. Treat each as a miss.

Two rules make the difference. Re-solve before you read, because a worked solution creates a feeling of understanding that evaporates under time pressure. And write one line per miss as a rule, not a fact: "decide the logical relationship before looking at the choices" beats "the answer was C." Finish with one page of rules and traps. That page, not the score, is the deliverable.

Reading and Writing: Question Types

The 66 Reading and Writing questions on the paper form come from four domains: Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, and Standard English Conventions. The test's own directions confirm the format: every question is multiple choice with four answer choices and a single best answer, built on one or more short passages that may include a table or graph. Read all four rationales in the explanations PDF, even on questions you got right, because the distractor logic repeats across tests.

  • Vocabulary in context. Predict the missing word before you look at the choices. The distractors are built to look plausible to anyone who reads the options first.
  • Function and main purpose. Ask what the sentence does in the paragraph, not what it says. If your rationale is a paraphrase, you have not answered it.
  • Command of evidence. Text and graph versions test the same move: match a claim to the one detail that supports it. Data questions punish reading the wrong row.
  • Standard English Conventions. Punctuation, boundaries, agreement, modifiers. Finite, learnable, and the fastest part of the test to improve; our SAT grammar practice guide targets these rules.

Math: Question Types

Test 8's 54 Math questions span Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry. Fourteen of them, seven per module, are student-produced responses where you write the answer instead of picking one. The booklet allows up to five characters, six including a negative sign, and accepts equivalent forms, so an improper fraction or its decimal both earn credit.

  • Grid-ins concentrate careless losses. No answer list catches a slip, so a sign error or a rounding mistake costs the full point. Check each against the question's units and rounding instruction.
  • Use the calculator deliberately. Desmos is devastating on systems and intersections, and a time sink on problems that fall to one line of algebra. Note per miss whether it would have helped or cost you time.
  • Answer the question asked. Many Math misses are correct work aimed at the wrong target, like solving for x when the item wanted 2x + 1.

One honest warning: on Math, the wrong-choice notes are often a single generic line about conceptual or calculation errors, while Reading and Writing gets a paragraph per distractor. You have to diagnose your own arithmetic, and that diagnosis is the learning. If misses cluster in one domain, the free Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy covers the same four domains, though full-length tests live in Bluebook.

Score Conversion: Raw to Scaled

If you took Test 8 in Bluebook, skip this: the app reports section and total scores in My Practice. On paper you do it by hand.

Count correct answers in each module, add the two for a section raw score, then look that number up in the conversion table. Test 8's denominators are printed on the worksheet: Reading and Writing is scored out of 66, Math out of 54, for 120 scored questions. The table does not give you a score. It gives a lower value and an upper value, and the worksheet is labeled a score range.

Five of its 67 rows, shown to illustrate the shape rather than replace the official PDF, which you should pull from College Board for your own raw score:

Raw scoreReading and Writing bandMath band
19330 to 370380 to 420
20330 to 370380 to 420
33430 to 470490 to 550
44530 to 590630 to 690
54640 to 700800 (maximum Math raw score)

The band is wide. Across the middle of the scale, where most students land, it runs 40 points, and through long stretches of the upper-middle range it opens to 60. It collapses to a single number only at the extremes, top and bottom alike. Near the floor the two columns diverge sharply: Reading and Writing stays pinched at 10 points, while Math balloons to as much as 80. Add the two lower values and the two upper values for your total: 44 correct in Reading and Writing plus 33 in Math converts to roughly 1020 to 1140. That 120-point spread is the honest precision of a hand-scored test.

One more correct answer does not always move you. On Test 8, raw scores of 19 and 20 land on the identical Reading and Writing band and the identical Math band, and the same flat step repeats at several places in both columns. If two practice tests differ by a question or two, you have measured nothing.

College Board says so itself. The guide calls its own hand-scoring method "a simplified (and therefore slightly less precise) version" of the one used on the real test. The structural reason: the operational SAT is section-adaptive, so which questions you saw is part of the result, not just how many you got right, and a fixed table cannot reproduce that. The denominators differ too, since paper Test 8 scores 120 questions and the digital exam scores 98. Treat the band as a rough altitude reading, check the arithmetic with our SAT score calculator, and get your real number from Bluebook.

What to Do After Reviewing

Desk set up for a full-length SAT practice test under realistic timed conditions

If your test date is two or three weeks out, your calendar constrains you more than your knowledge gaps do:

  • Days 1 to 2: Finish the review and produce your one-page rules sheet. Nothing else.
  • Days 3 to 9: Drill the two or three domains that generated the most misses, in short daily sessions. Frequency beats duration this close in.
  • Days 10 to 12: Take a different full-length test in Bluebook under real conditions: same start time, phone in another room, timed break. Tests 4 through 11 are all available.
  • Final days: Light review only. Reread the rules page, confirm your test center, and sleep.

Daily drilling is where most plans quietly die, because opening a PDF and marking yourself has too much friction for a school week. That is the gap Larry Learns fills: an interactive app rather than a printable, so practice happens in a browser or on your phone with instant marking, across web, iPhone, and Android on one account. The bank runs to 25,000+ questions covering both scored SAT sections and all four scored ACT sections, free to start with three quizzes and three AI explanations a day; the Ace plan at $19 a month removes both caps. You can try a quiz first.

Frequently Asked Questions About SAT Practice Test 8 Answers

Where is the answer key for SAT Practice Test 8?

Inside "Scoring Your SAT Practice Test 8," the second file in Bundle 8 on College Board's paper practice tests page. It holds the answer-key worksheet and the raw-score conversion table; a third file, the answer explanations, covers the reasoning behind every question. All three are free, which is why we do not reproduce the key here.

Does official SAT Practice Test 8 still exist?

Yes. College Board's current set runs from Test 4 through Test 11, in Bluebook and as paper bundles. Tests 1 through 3 were retired in February 2025 and their PDF links now redirect to the practice index, which is why older guides pointing at Test 1 or 2 lead nowhere.

How do I convert my raw score on Practice Test 8 to a 1600 scale?

Add your correct answers per module for a section raw score, out of 66 for Reading and Writing and 54 for Math, then look it up in the conversion table. You get a lower and an upper value per section. Add the two lowers and the two uppers, and that pair is your total score range on the 400 to 1600 scale.

Why does Practice Test 8 give a score range instead of one number?

Because the hand-scoring method is deliberately simplified, and College Board says so in the document. The real exam adapts and scores with more information than a fixed table can carry, so the paper version reports the range you might plausibly have earned. Most Test 8 bands run 40 to 60 points wide per section.

Is Practice Test 8 harder than the real SAT?

It can feel harder for a structural reason rather than a standards one: the paper form cannot adapt, so every student meets the full difficulty range in one fixed pass, across 22 more questions and 30 more minutes. Our look at the hardest official practice test unpacks this further.

Should I take Practice Test 8 in Bluebook or on paper?

In Bluebook, unless you have approved paper-based accommodations. It matches real timing, delivers the adaptive experience and the built-in Desmos calculator, and scores itself with question-level review. College Board recommends the PDFs specifically for students testing with paper-based accommodations.

Practice Test 8 is one of eight official tests you can take for free, and the score is the least useful thing it gives you. The rules page from your review is the asset. Get the bundle from College Board, run the four-bucket review, convert your raw score into an honest band rather than a false number, then turn what you found into daily reps.
