Best SAT App for Dyslexia: Practice on the Extra-Time Clock

The best SAT app for dyslexia is one that can run College Board +50% or +100% timing. Larry Learns has extended and double timers. The SSD application stays on the accommodations guide.

Best SAT App for Dyslexia: Practice on the Extra-Time Clock

Short answer: the best SAT app if you have dyslexia is Larry Learns, because extended (+50%) and double (+100%) timers follow College Board's published minutes, not a made-up percentage. It does not file your SSD request. It does not replace Bluebook text-to-speech. It lets you train inside the same time frame as an approved extended-time SAT.

What the accommodation looks like, which documentation SSD wants, and how you apply, that belongs to the SAT accommodations guide. This page only answers which app to open between the request and test day. Which app fits how you study otherwise is which SAT app fits you.

How to Turn On Extended Practice Time

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the timer mode card.
  3. Pick Extended for +50%, or Double for +100%, if that is what SSD assigned or what you are requesting. Not Standard, not Off, if you actually need to live in that frame.
  4. Do five questions. The per-question clock is longer. Reading and Writing at +50% is 96 minutes on test day, Math 106. Double is 128 and 140.

You do not type a diagnosis. The mode is a timer, not a medical record. Switch back to Off when you are learning a new question type and the clock is the thing you fail, not the content. Switch to Extended or Double again when you need the body to tolerate the official length. Duels ignore the choice: timing stays the same for everyone so a match stays fair.

What the App Should Do That SSD Does Not

SSD gives more time on test day, if they approve it. SSD does not give you a daily practice app. Three things an SAT app has to get right if it is honest about dyslexia:

  1. Extended time that follows College Board, not a guess. +50% and +100% are the published multipliers. Larry Learns uses those factors under Settings. A flat "plus 25% on everything" is the wrong tool.
  2. Timer off while you learn the item. Then back to extended or double so 3 hours and 21 minutes plus breaks (or 4 hours and 28 minutes plus breaks) is not a surprise. Timer off is practice. It is not the SSD decision.
  3. The same questions as everyone else. Extra time is the same SAT, another clock. The app should not swap Reading and Writing for something easier.

Next SAT dates: October 3, 2026 and November 7, 2026. A new SSD request can take up to seven weeks, so start through the school coordinator now if November is the target. The official timing write-up is on College Board's SAT accommodations page.

How Larry Learns Differs From the Rights Guide

The accommodations page is the process: SSD coordinator, Parent Consent Form, documentation, eligibility code, IEP does not auto-transfer. This page is the tool. Open the app, set the timer to extended or double, do five questions, read the explanation when you are wrong. Free gives three such sessions a day. Ace at $19/mo removes the cap. The bank is 25,000+ questions on iPhone, Android, and the web with the same account.

Two things the app is not. It does not read the items aloud. Embedded text-to-speech on test day is a Bluebook accommodation if SSD approved it, and we do not pretend a phone voice replaces that. It does not apply for you. Documentation and the school SSD coordinator are College Board's path, listed on Requesting Through the School.

If you have dyslexia and ADHD, or dyslexia and autism: the clock follows whatever SSD assigned. Short sessions still help the habit. ADHD and autism explain session shape. This page explains the practice timer.

You should still do official practice tests in Bluebook. The app is the repetition between those tests. Prices against other apps live in the app comparison. iPhone framing is also best SAT prep app for iPhone.

Short sessions are a warm-up, not the whole plan, when test day may be more than three hours. See short sessions for the habit. Dyscalculia is not a second slug. A math learning disability can still be an SSD request with documentation. Honest math explanations are the practice, not a hidden easier bank.

What We Do Not Promise

We do not say Larry Learns cures dyslexia. We do not say an extended timer in the app is a College Board decision. We do not say you can skip the SSD file. We say practice should sit in the same frame as test day, and the app is built for that frame. A reading service is a different tool. It does not train Math against the clock.

Frequently Asked Questions About SAT Apps for Dyslexia

What is the best SAT app for dyslexia?

Larry Learns, if you want to practice on College Board extra-time minutes and still finish short sessions. Compare prices in the app comparison if you want the whole field first.

Does the app give me extra time on the real SAT?

No. Extra time is an SSD approval, requested through school. The app only trains the clock. Read the SAT accommodations guide.

Can I get the test read aloud in Larry Learns?

No. Text-to-speech on test day is Bluebook, if SSD approved it. Practice explanations here are written.

Should I practice with the timer off or extended?

Off while you learn a new question type. Extended or double when you need to tolerate the official minutes. Standard only if you will actually test on standard time.

I have dyslexia and autism. Which app then?

The same one. Set extended or double for the dyslexia clock. Use short, identical sessions for the habit. Extra time still comes from SSD, not from the autism label.

Next Step

Set the timer to extended or double. Do five questions in the free quiz. Then read how to apply, if the SSD file is not already in motion.
