When Do PSAT Scores Come Out? Release Dates and How to Check (2026)

PSAT/NMSQT scores from the October 2025 test are released in three waves: October 24, November 7, and November 14, 2025. Which wave you fall into depends on the date your school administered the test. Scores show up in your College Board student account on the release date for your wave.

This guide covers the exact 2025 release dates, how to check your scores when they drop, what your score report includes, and what to do next once you have your results. The dates and process below are verified against the official College Board score release page.

PSAT 2025 Score Release Dates

If You Tested By... Scores Available On
October 11, 2025 (early wave, including Saturday Oct 11) Friday, October 24, 2025
October 26, 2025 (middle wave, including Saturday Oct 18) Friday, November 7, 2025
October 31, 2025 (final wave) Friday, November 14, 2025

Most students get their scores about 2-3 weeks after the test date. If you do not know which wave you are in, ask your school counselor or check your College Board account on the earliest possible date.

Where to Check Your PSAT Scores

Calendar with PSAT score release dates circled

1. College Board Student Score Reports

The primary place to check your PSAT scores is studentscores.collegeboard.org. You will need to sign in with the College Board account you created when you took the test (or one your school created for you).

Once signed in:

  1. Click "PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 Scores"
  2. Select your most recent test date
  3. View your total score, section scores, percentiles, and skill area breakdowns

2. BigFuture School Mobile App

If you provided a mobile phone number when you took the PSAT, the College Board sends you a text message with instructions to download the BigFuture School app. The app sends you a notification when your scores are ready and lets you view them directly on your phone. This is often the fastest way to find out your score is available.

3. Your School Counselor

Schools and counselors can see PSAT scores about one week before students get access. If your scores are taking longer than expected to appear in your College Board account, ask your counselor. They can usually look up your results before the official student release date.

What Time of Day Are PSAT Scores Released?

The College Board does not publish a specific release time. Based on the typical release pattern, scores generally become available in the College Board student portal in the morning Eastern Time on the release date. By midday, almost all students in a given wave can access their scores.

If you do not see your scores by the afternoon of the release date, refresh the page, sign out and back in, or try again the next morning. Occasional delays happen as the system processes thousands of accounts at once.

What Your PSAT Score Report Includes

When you log in to view your scores, you will see a detailed report with several pieces of information:

  • Total score (320-1520) — the sum of your two section scores
  • Section scores (160-760) — one for Reading and Writing, one for Math
  • Percentiles — how your score compares to other students at your grade level nationally
  • Selection Index (48-228) — the score used for National Merit Scholarship qualification (juniors only)
  • Skill area breakdowns — performance on specific skill areas within each section (Craft and Structure, Information and Ideas, Standard English Conventions, Expression of Ideas in R&W; Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem Solving and Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry in Math)
  • Question-level results — for each question, you can see whether you got it right, wrong, or skipped

The skill area breakdowns are the most valuable part of the score report for SAT prep. They tell you exactly which question types are costing you points so you know where to focus your study time. For more on what your scores mean, see PSAT Score Range and What Is a Good PSAT Score?

Do Parents Get PSAT Scores?

Parents do not receive a separate notification when PSAT scores are released. The College Board sends scores directly to the student. If you want your parents to see your scores, you can either share your College Board login or screenshot your score report.

Some schools also share student scores with parents directly through their school portal or in printed reports during parent-teacher conferences. Check with your school for their specific process.

National Merit Scholarship Notification Timeline

If you are a junior taking the PSAT/NMSQT, your score determines whether you qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. The notification timeline is much longer than the score release timeline:

When What Happens
October 2025 Take the PSAT/NMSQT (junior year)
Oct 24 - Nov 14, 2025 PSAT scores released through College Board portal
September 2026 National Merit Semifinalists announced (~16,000 students)
September - October 2026 Commended Students notified (~34,000 students)
February 2027 National Merit Finalists notified
March - July 2027 Scholarship winners announced

The full National Merit process takes nearly 18 months from PSAT day to the announcement of scholarship winners. For more on what each level means, see What Is the PSAT?

What to Do After You Get Your PSAT Scores

Whether your score is higher or lower than expected, the next steps are the same:

1. Review Your Skill Area Breakdowns

Do not just look at your total score. Click into the skill area breakdowns and identify the 2-3 areas where you lost the most points. These are where targeted study will yield the biggest improvement.

2. Set an SAT Target

Your PSAT score is one of the strongest predictors of your eventual SAT score. With moderate preparation (6-8 weeks at 3-5 hours per week), most students score 100-180 points higher on the SAT than on the PSAT. Use your PSAT score plus a realistic improvement target to set your SAT goal. See PSAT to SAT Score Conversion for detailed predictions.

3. Build a Study Plan

Focus 60-70% of your study time on your weakest skill areas. Use the SAT Math Formula Sheet for math review and the Digital SAT Grammar Rules guide for grammar. For a complete week-by-week approach, see How to Create a Study Schedule for the SAT.

4. Take SAT Practice Tests

The PSAT and SAT use the same format, so SAT practice tests are also useful prep. Use the official Bluebook practice tests for full-length timed practice, and use Larry Learns SAT quizzes for targeted drilling between full tests.

5. Check National Merit Eligibility (Juniors Only)

If you are a junior with a high Selection Index, check whether you qualify for National Merit recognition. For the Class of 2026, the Commended Student cutoff was a Selection Index of 210, and Semifinalist cutoffs ranged from 210 (smaller states) to 225 (Massachusetts and New Jersey). See PSAT Score Range for state-by-state cutoff details.

Why Are PSAT Scores Released in Waves?

The College Board staggers PSAT score releases for two main reasons:

  1. Test administration window: Schools test on different dates throughout October. The College Board needs time to score and process tests after each wave of administrations is complete.
  2. Server capacity: Releasing scores to over a million students all at once would crash the College Board's online systems. Staggering the release by test date keeps the system stable and ensures students get reliable access.

If your school tested on a Friday in early October, your scores will be in the first wave (October 24). If your school tested on a weekday in mid-to-late October, you will be in the second wave (November 7). If your school tested on the final days of October, you will be in the third wave (November 14).

What If Your Scores Are Missing or Delayed?

Most students get their scores on time, but occasional issues happen. If your scores are not available on the expected date:

  • Check the next day. Sometimes the system experiences brief delays. Try logging in again the morning after the official release date.
  • Verify your College Board account. Make sure you are logging into the same account you used when registering for the PSAT. If you have multiple accounts, this is a common source of confusion.
  • Ask your school counselor. Schools see scores a week before students. If your scores are not in your account, your counselor can confirm whether they have been processed.
  • Contact College Board customer service. If your scores are still missing two weeks after your wave's release date, contact College Board customer service directly.

How Long Are PSAT Scores Available?

Your PSAT scores remain available in your College Board account indefinitely. You can return to view your score report any time you want. There is no expiration date.

If you take the PSAT multiple times (once as a sophomore, once as a junior, for example), all of your past scores remain accessible from the same account. You can compare them to track your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions About PSAT Score Release

When do PSAT scores come out for the October 2025 test?

PSAT/NMSQT scores from the October 2025 test are released in three waves: October 24, 2025 (for tests by Oct 11), November 7, 2025 (for tests by Oct 26), and November 14, 2025 (for tests by Oct 31). Most students get scores about 2-3 weeks after their test date.

What time do PSAT scores come out?

The College Board does not publish a specific release time. Scores generally appear in the College Board student portal in the morning Eastern Time on the release date. By midday, virtually all students in a given wave can access their scores.

How do I check my PSAT scores?

Log in to your College Board student account at studentscores.collegeboard.org and click "PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 Scores." If you provided a mobile number when registering, you can also check your scores through the BigFuture School app, which sends a notification when your scores are ready.

Do parents get PSAT scores too?

No, parents do not receive a separate notification. The College Board sends scores directly to the student through their personal account. If you want your parents to see your scores, you can share your login or screenshot your score report. Some schools also share scores with parents directly.

Can my school see my PSAT scores before I do?

Yes. Schools and counselors typically see PSAT scores about one week before students get access. If your scores are not yet showing in your account but you want to know your results, ask your guidance counselor.

Why are PSAT scores released in waves?

Schools administer the PSAT on different dates throughout October, and the College Board processes scores in batches to keep their systems stable. Releasing scores to over a million students simultaneously would overwhelm the online portal. Staggering by test date ensures reliable access for everyone.

What does my PSAT score report include?

Your PSAT score report includes your total score (320-1520), section scores for Reading and Writing and Math (160-760 each), national percentiles, your Selection Index for National Merit (48-228), skill area breakdowns showing your performance on specific question types, and question-level results showing which questions you got right, wrong, or skipped.

When are National Merit Semifinalists announced?

National Merit Semifinalists from the October 2025 PSAT/NMSQT will be announced in September 2026, about 11 months after the test. Commended Students are notified around the same time. Finalists are announced in February 2027, and scholarship winners are announced from March through July 2027. The full process takes about 18 months from PSAT day to scholarship announcement.
