ACT to SAT Conversion: Calculator and Official Chart (2026)
ACT to SAT converter plus the official 2018 concordance charts: total, Math and Reading. Still valid for the digital SAT and the enhanced ACT in 2026.

Quick answer: To convert an ACT score to the SAT, or an SAT score to the ACT, use the official 2018 ACT/SAT concordance published jointly by ACT and the College Board. A 30 ACT concords to a 1370 SAT (range 1360 to 1380), a 34 ACT to a 1500 SAT, a 1400 SAT to a 31 ACT, and a 36 ACT to a 1590 SAT. Those tables are still the official comparison in 2026: the digital SAT keeps the 1600 scale with a straight-line concordance to the paper SAT, and ACT's own research finds the enhanced ACT composite concordant with the old one.
The converter below runs the official tables in both directions, for the total or composite score and for the Math and Reading sections. The full charts, every conversion from a 28 to a 36, and the 2026 validity details follow it.

Reading and Writing: SAT to ACT English plus Reading
ACT reports English and Reading as two separate 1 to 36 scores. The official table concords their sum (2 to 72) to the SAT Reading and Writing section (200 to 800). The digital SAT's Reading and Writing section uses the same scale the table was built on. Every 10-point score is in the converter; the chart shows every 20 points.

Is the 2018 concordance still valid in 2026?
Yes, and it is still the only official one. Three things changed since 2018, and none of them replaced the tables.
The digital SAT (2024). College Board's concordance and vertical scaling studies "confirm a straight-line concordance between our paper-based and digital assessment scores," and the test is still scored on the 1600 scale. A digital SAT score reads straight off these tables.
The enhanced ACT (2025). ACT phased in the shorter test during 2025: online national tests from April 2025, every form from September 2025. The composite is now the average of English, Math and Reading, and in ACT's words the science and writing sections "do not affect your Composite score." ACT's June 2025 research report found that the three-section composite from the enhanced ACT "is concordant with" the four-section composite from the legacy ACT for scores of 14 or higher, so an enhanced ACT composite reads off the same table.
No re-issue. ACT states that the tables "were released in 2018 and are not updated annually." Until ACT and the College Board publish new ones, this is the official comparison, and it is the one admissions offices use.
Treat every conversion as a range, not a point. In ACT's words, a concorded score "is not a perfect prediction of how a student would perform on the other test." It tells you which scores sit at the same rank among students who took both tests.
How to use a converted score
Pick your test. Take a timed practice test of each, convert both, and prepare for the one that comes out higher (or feels better if they tie). Our SAT vs ACT guide walks through the decision and has a six-question self-check.
Read college ranges in either currency. Colleges publish middle-50% ranges for both tests. Convert your score to compare with whichever one a college lists. Our score calculator turns raw section scores into scaled ones and shows admissions tiers.
Superscore within one test only. Colleges that superscore combine your best sections across dates of the same test. They do not mix an SAT section with an ACT section.
Practice for the test you picked. For SAT-only practice, SATboozter. For ACT-only practice, ACTboozter. For both tests in one account with a free daily quiz, Larry Learns.
Frequently asked questions about ACT to SAT conversion
What is a 30 ACT in SAT terms?
A 30 on the ACT concords to a 1370 on the SAT, within the official range of 1360 to 1380.
What ACT score equals a 1400 SAT?
A 1400 SAT concords to a 31 on the ACT. The 1400 is also the single SAT score the tables designate for a 31; the full range for a 31 is 1390 to 1410.
Does the enhanced ACT change the ACT to SAT conversion?
No. The enhanced ACT composite is the average of English, Math and Reading, and ACT's June 2025 research found it concordant with the old four-section composite for scores of 14 or higher. ACT and the College Board have not issued new ACT/SAT tables, so the 2018 concordance remains the official one.
Does the digital SAT change the conversion?
No. The digital SAT is scored on the same 400 to 1600 scale, and College Board's studies confirm a straight-line concordance between paper and digital scores. Use the tables as they are.
How accurate is the ACT to SAT conversion?
It is a same-rank comparison, not a prediction. The concordance was built from students who took both tests, so a concorded score sits at the same percentile rank as your actual score. Your own result on the other test could land anywhere in the range, which is why the tables give one.
Do colleges convert ACT and SAT scores?
Yes. Admissions offices use the official concordance to compare applicants who submit different tests, and they accept both tests equally with no preference.
Is a 1400 SAT better than a 31 ACT?
No. They concord to each other, so they represent the same rank. Send whichever one a college's published range favors, or both if the college accepts both.
Which is better, the SAT or ACT?
Neither. Colleges treat them the same, so the better test is whichever one you score higher on, which is exactly what this conversion helps you find out. The SAT vs ACT guide covers the decision in full.
